I can honestly say what made me as engaged as I am, as confident as I am in my studies are my lecturers. I can't speak for all of the courses, as where we did sometimes cross over with other social sciences modules *ahem*- sociology- some of the other tutors were not as helpful.
However! All other Law, policing, criminological and psychological lecturers I came into contact with during my 3years here really give 110% to help you every step of the way, they are like friends offering practical and real life advice.
Nothing defines this better than when I first saw our law lecturer casually stood outside smoking a cigarette and laughing with other students about unimportant things during the lecture break. But you shouldn't be fooled by the lecturers friendly laid back nature, they have sharp minds and are constantly up to date with readings and current debates that effect our modules, this means lecture materials always feel fresh and exciting, and you feel the lecturers really care about how they teach.
Cumbria is a small campus and isn't necessarily the most prestigious university, but I swear the quality of teaching and dedication may even exceed most other universities.
I'm not sure if the reason I have raved so much about the university is because I went in with relatively low expectations, with the intention of getting the degree and getting out, but it really surprised me! If you are passionate about the career the degree will offer you then I highly reccomend the university! If you're going because you don't know what to do then forget it you will hate it. The only hang ups I had with the university were the range of books available at the library and the students who didn't really want to be there and dragged their feet. Please don't be that student.

The courses take full advantage of this and the courses have a very practical and hands on nature. The village is small which allows you to get to know everyone and make the most of your time there.
