As an international student coming from the United States, I found the enrolment process quite difficult at times very stressful. The communication process was difficult over the telephone and the email process sometimes took up to ten days to receive a response. This proved stressful as most requirements for international travel were time sensitive. The most disappointing situation was after I received my student VISA, I was told the master's program I was registered to, was discontinued due to low student enrolment. This was just days away from my flight to London and I had to change to a different master's program or loose my student VISA and forfeit all financial aid. I was only offered some help from the program director of the Environment and Sustainability program. I feel like the department of international students be the first response for all international students in my situation. The process should not be as stressful or as difficult a process as this was for me. Especially when traveling across the globe to be a part of such a highly recommended university. I am grateful I was able to remain here at Birkbeck and have started to build a wonderful relationship with my professors. Please take my words as an area to improve with the intentions of becoming an even better institution of higher learning.

The teachers, so far that I have had, have been so wonderful. I started the first term really worried, feeling a bit lonely and emotional but I felt really inspired and motivated by them. I also think the overall values of the university are so good - it gives opportunities and a voice to all and I’m honestly proud to say that I study there. The thing, however I would improve on is communication. Sometimes it’s hard to get in touch with students services and get responses from them or queries raised. I also find personal tutors aren’t really that supportive.

I like when I have in person classes much more as I think that is where the real learning is done. When you engage with others in class and exchange ideas it’s such a great way to learn and engage again with the materials. I would like, though for classes to finish at 8pm instead of 9
