Goof facilities

I really like UEA. I think it is very professionally run and the content taught is always changing and new and fresh as society evolves. I like how politically and socially diverse it is. I've met some great people here. You can tell that the staff genuinely care about the Education they are delivering. UEA takes pride in providing the best services, opportunities and facilities for their students.

I think UEA has good facilities in terms of everything being available to you on campus. However I think because the uni is so far from the city centre it can feel as though there is little choice. Having said that, the food is constantly changing at the Campus Kitchen and the coffee is great. The sports hall is one of the uni's best assets. It includes an Olympic sized swimming pool, a huge gym, a running track, a large open field, and even a rock climbing wall. There are places to laundrettes to wash your clothes, a shop for everyday items, and a bar and nightlife on campus. We often have bands come and play at our venue too.

Lecturers, in my experience, are always willing to talk to you about concerns. My dissertarion supervisor is the best for this, she will invite you in even without a appointment. The staff at UEA always answer emails and are extremely helpful. Feedback is generally always provided. However I think the mental health services at UEA need improvement. They offer group counselling generally which i don't believe is suitable for everyone. There is little outreach, it is reliant on the student to seek help and arrange all of your own appointments with little or no check ups inbetween. I believe the staff are struggling with the influx of people coming forward. There are some great student support services however from other students such as LGBT support networks.

Student Union is great, there are many posters with the faces of the students on the union so you always know who you can go to. We get a lot of emails from the students themselves so it is very personalised. The union also holds a lot of events and has facilities directly funding the SU. For example, our coffee shop donates 100% of income back into the student union to help create these events. They are also for things that are culturally important and inclusive. UEA is a really good university for inclusion.

UEA is tucked out of the way from the city centre but they have transport to there inside the university. There are lots of useful and great things in the campus itself such as a bar, places to eat, and the sports hall. All accommodation is nearby, I think the farthest away is about a 15 minute walk. (I used to live there.)

UEA has so many societies and the sports hall makes it super easy to host sport events. I think there is pretty much a society for everyone and if there are gaps, students are welcome to make their own societies.

I like that our lecturers will ask for feedback half way through the module to see what they can improve and change. They are constantly working with the students. I much prefer seminars to lectures because I like doing activities but I understand why we need lectures to learn the content.

UEA has CareersCentral which makes it super easy to get an appointment to talk to an advisor. They even offer telephone calls if you can not make your appointment. Their website is easy to follow and holds a lot of information and opportunities. Furthermore our lecturers who see us most often will also email you if they find an opportunity they think you might be interested in. The university also provides a lot of employability building workshops throughout the year which are completely free. They also have very specialised workshops for the careers that you might want to explore.
