The University of South Wales at Newport campus is an exceptional place to study, offering both academic excellence and a truly supportive environment. The lecturers are always accessible and eager to help, whether that’s in person or online, making the learning experience feel personal and tailored. The campus is modern and comfortable, with spacious lecture halls featuring cozy seating, making long hours of study much more enjoyable. There is also a library with a variety of books and a quiet area room if you ever need to use it. There is also lots of seating areas provided on all floors throughout the university, ranging from tables and chairs to booths with tables and comfy seats. However, one standout feature is the newly added Hydra Suite, providing a unique and immersive learning experience. Getting around the campus is a breeze, and with a Starbucks shop conveniently located downstairs, it's easy to grab a coffee or something to eat between classes.
The location is perfect, just a short walk from multi-storey car parks and Friars Walk Shopping Centre, which offers everything you need, from fashion to food. Plus, student accommodation is only a 10-minute walk (or even shorter) from the campus, making it incredibly convenient. Whether you're attending lectures, relaxing in between classes, or enjoying the nearby shops, the university’s combination of support, comfort, and convenience makes it a fantastic choice.

This course offers a blend of academic study and practical teaching experience, allowing students to develop expertise in primary education while gaining hands-on experience in diverse classroom settings. The course is full time and is taught in class for every lecture. The course days are usually Monday to Friday and hours can range anywhere from a 9am start to a 4pm finish, except when on placement. However, you get most half terms off and some days of certain weeks! The course is supported by experienced tutors and offers plenty of opportunities for professional development, ensuring students are confident and ready to make a positive impact in primary schools. I have absolutely loved my placement in primary school which is only half hour away from the university accommodation by car. It has been an amazing experience with an incredible amount of support received from both lecturers and my mentors in the school. I have learnt so much since starting here and feel so much more confident after placement, especially considering that I had no experience when starting!

What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The student accommodation in Newport offers great convenience and comfort, making it an ideal choice for those studying in the area. The rooms are spacious and well-maintained, with modern amenities that ensure a pleasant living experience. The location is perfect, with a large shopping centre and plenty of shops within walking distance, offering everything you could need from daily essentials to leisure activities. The proximity to public transport and the university also makes commuting easy and hassle-free. The university has a car park if you need to keep your car there and also a ‘common area’ where you can do anything from cook to chill or play games. The staff also host activities in there such as jacket potato night, pizza night, card making for valentines, and much more to offer! There is also someone available on the reception desk if you ever need anything every day, for 24 hours. I really like living here and think that my room is very cozy and comfortable.
However, while the accommodation and location are fantastic, I do have concerns about the safety of the area. Compared to my hometown, I've noticed a higher rate of crime in the surrounding area, which can be unsettling at times. While this isn't to say it's unsafe all the time, it's something to be aware of if you're considering living here. Overall, the accommodation itself is excellent, but I’d recommend taking extra precautions and being mindful of the environment when heading out, especially after dark. I have personally never had any issues myself but it’s just a safety precaution!
