Evening lessons so you can take full advantage of the day. Really good support network and tutor system. Not the usual university experience but it works for most :)

Sometimes I feel like we have to take longer on certain topics due to their being older students who haven’t been in education for a while. But that actually helped me when moving away from home and starting a new life.

It uses UoL intercollegiate halls so it’s a great opportunity to meet people from everywhere! The best prices that you’re going to get as well, especially for the location.

The teaching and research at Birkbeck is truly excellent! I love all the lectures and tutorials, they're so interesting and I found that any questions I had were kindly and supportively answered, I always got a quick response via email too. The HyFlex format is incredibly helpful for those days you can't make it in person, and it's very well organised. They have a great career service where advisers can talk to you about career plans, and there's an excellent exploratory online service for more clearly defining you career goals, checking your CV, interview practice and more. In terms of academics and career support Birkbeck delivers really well. The campus itself is nice, being in the centre of London is a great plus, easy access to everything. The library is incredible, lots of quiet and comfy spaces to study, and you can have about 20 books out a time no problem. The only downside is there's not much of a student community/life here, not as much as at other universities, being an evening university with a more mature student body. There's things going on but you have to actually be active about it and check the email newsletter, put things on your calendar etc. as it doesn't have that buzzing university feel where there's always something going on. The student union is great though and there's lots of opportunities to get involved. The facilities and campus look could be improved.

The course is Hy-Flex, so all the lectures and tutorials are simultaneously happening in person and online. This is fantastic for the days that you can't make it into university or need to be at home for some reason, and a great opportunity for those who live outside of London too. It's very well organised, with the recorded material being posted online soon after the live lesson ends. There's lots of content on the VLE to study before and after the lecture, and generally the course is very well-thought out in terms of giving you access to the information you need in a logical, supportive way. The lecturers are always a quick email away and very helpful and responsive in class too for any questions you have.
