The students life and SU are great - there's always some club or society to join, some activity happening - it's wonderful! Plenty of study space and good study snacks and drinks available

It's all pretty great! The course facilities are fine, they're not exceptional but they're comprehensive and comfortable, which is exactly what we need. The profs and the material are great - they're all really welcoming and happy to explain further in class or during office hours.

Best aspects The strongest feature of the University of Essex is its academic focus and intellectual culture. Courses are research-led and encourage critical thinking rather than passive learning. In subjects such as politics, sociology, and economics, teaching quality is particularly strong, with lecturers who are active researchers and accessible outside class. The campus-based structure is another advantage. Everything—accommodation, lecture halls, library, sports facilities, and social spaces—is within walking distance. This creates a close-knit community and makes daily life efficient. The international student population also adds significant value, exposing students to diverse perspectives and preparing them for global careers. Career support services and employability initiatives are well developed. Worst aspects Some campus buildings feel dated and would benefit from modernisation. Accommodation costs can be high relative to room quality. Transport links, particularly late-evening connections to London, are not always convenient.
