As an international student from China, I have had a very positive experience at this university. The university provides an inclusive and supportive learning environment, which was particularly helpful as I transitioned from Architecture to Computer Science. I received excellent guidance from my academic advisors and support teams, which made the process much smoother. The Computer Science curriculum is cutting-edge, covering a wide range of topics from foundational theories to practical applications, such as blockchain technology and Web3—fields that align perfectly with my career aspirations. The Students’ Union offers a wide variety of events, and I especially appreciate those aimed at helping international students integrate into campus life, such as cultural exchange days and career planning workshops. These activities not only allowed me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds but also deepened my understanding of British culture. Additionally, the university’s facilities are excellent; the well-equipped computer labs and library resources make studying both convenient and productive. Suggestions for Improvement: Although my overall experience has been great, there are areas where the university could improve. For instance, as someone transitioning from Architecture to Computer Science, I found the initial adjustment period to be quite challenging. Offering more structured bridge courses or foundational resources, such as short programming boot camps, would significantly ease the transition for students switching disciplines. Additionally, while the library facilities are excellent, they can become overcrowded during exam periods. Providing more quiet study spaces or extending library hours during peak times would greatly enhance the study experience for students. Conclusion: Overall, this university excels in both academics and student support, making me feel like a valued member of its community. As an international student, I greatly appreciate the diversity and inclusivity here. At the same time, I look forward to seeing more tailored support for interdisciplinary students to help them transition smoothly and achieve their academic goals.

Strengths: As an international student, I have gained a lot from the MSc Computer Science program at Newcastle University. The course design is highly practical and closely aligned with industry needs. Through team projects and lab-based practices, I have not only acquired core skills in programming and algorithms but also learned how to apply these skills to solve real-world problems. The lecturers’ teaching style is highly interactive, encouraging critical thinking while providing clear theoretical guidance. For someone like me with a background in Architecture, many aspects of the course—such as data modeling, logical design, and software development—have allowed me to incorporate my previous experience in design and systems thinking into the field of Computer Science. This interdisciplinary approach has made my learning journey unique and valuable. The support services at Newcastle University are also excellent. From academic advisors to technical support teams, I have always felt that help is available whenever I face challenges. In particular, the international student support services have helped me adapt quickly to the UK’s academic environment and cultural life. Suggestions for Improvement: Although the overall course design is outstanding, for students with a non-technical background, certain technical modules can be quite advanced. For instance, sections involving advanced programming or mathematics can be challenging for beginners. Offering more foundational elective modules to help students from non-computer science fields gradually build their expertise would greatly enhance the learning experience. Additionally, I believe the practical aspects of the course could be further expanded. For example, increasing opportunities for collaboration with industry or offering more guidance from industry mentors would allow students to gain deeper insights into how technology is applied in real-world business scenarios and better align their studies with future career development. Conclusion: Studying at Newcastle University has allowed me to recognize the vast potential of Computer Science and explore opportunities for interdisciplinary integration. This experience has equipped me with the confidence and skills necessary to transition from Architecture to Computer Science.
