I love how the University shares both aspects of campus and city life rolled into one based on its location super close to the city centre. The accomodation is also very diverse as you have the ability to live off or on campus. The variety of library and study spaces, including the Laidlaw Library that has recently changed to open 24/7, allows for lots of different working environments depending on your preference. The University campus appearance is more on the modern side and looks very grey/ industrial in some areas which does not appeal to me, however there have been some nice new renovations to the inside of the union which I am excited to explore.

For the chemistry course, there are alot of contact hours throughout the week and opportunities to ask questions through workshops, tutorials, computer sessions, etc. The two labs are beneficial in trying out both sides of chemistry (physical and organic). The lecturers have overall been very good and explain concepts well. Although the biggest downfall in my opinion is that the terms are very intense in terms of workload and hours per week compared to my peers at different universities, which can be very difficult to catch up easily if you have fallen behind, perhaps due to illness, which isn’t uncommon as a first year university student.

I think the location is excellent, with both the campus and city centre a 5 minute walk and a tesco express at the bottom of the accommodation, which has proved a life saver closing late at night! The kitchen is the perfect size for 5 people and so are the rooms, despite also being ensuite. The flat is a great place to have pres with friends and flatmates, however with each flat being very spaced out or on different floors it is quite difficult to socialise outside the flat, and only having one common room between 4 large blocks can make it a difficult placed to easily hang out in or meet new people solo.
