University rating
Tell us about your overall university experience so far.
Having studied at UoG for almost two years, I can say it’s a fantastic university which offers everything a student needs: a friendly atmosphere and learning environment; excellent teaching from passionate lecturers; support when you need it; valuable connections with local businesses; and a lovely town with a fun nightlife!
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
UoG offers great facilities - from the library and refectory to private study areas and spaces to socialise. With fairly small campuses, it's easy to find your way around and get access to everything you need!
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
UoG's HelpZone is an incredibly useful facility - any questions you have (and as a student, you'll probably have a lot!), somebody at the HelpZone will have the answer. Lecturers also provide great support!
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
The SU at UoG is very hands-on and you'll benefit from their presence from day one! Helping out on move-in day, organising events throughout the year and providing students with a voice within the university, the SU brings students together and makes the university a better place to live and study.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
Most of UoG's campuses are located in Cheltenham, which is a lovely town to live in and offers something for everyone! Shopping in town town centre caters for most tastes and also comprises various clubs which offer a great night life. Gloucester is also just a bus ride away, but doesn't really offer a great deal besides the Cathedral which is well worth a visit! And if you want to escape from everything for a while, Leckhampton is within walking distance and offers fantastic views of the town and surrounding areas.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
If sport is your thing, then there will be something for you at UoG! If not, there are plenty of other societies for you to get involved in, including enterprise which offers great networking and support if you want to create your own start-up.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
As a student of Business Management, I have had classes with a variety of lecturers, each of whom are able to bring their individual experience and unique insight into the classroom. In most cases, lecturers are always there to offer support when needed, especially if you demonstrate commitment to your studies.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Studying Business Management, it's vital to get hands-on experience alongside your studies and UoG has fantastic links with local businesses, helping you get your foot in the door and learn all about the industry in which you want to pursue a career.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The university offers great accommodation in first year. I was fortunate enough to live on Park Campus with several people from my course, where lectures are a two-minute walk away and the beautiful surroundings of Park are literally on your doorstep. Halls are a little pricey when compared to housing in second year, but when you consider convenience and the university experience, it's certainly worth it!
