Nottingham university is really one of the prettiest uni's in the country, and if I'm honest it was the campus that swung the decision for me to come here! Not only is it a stunning setting but the university itself is brilliant, from the quality of teaching and the amenities available to the extra-curricular activities and diverse cultures. The city itself is in close proximity and is lovely, full of shops and places to go whether you are a club-goer or prefer a more chilled evening. It didn't receive the full 5 stars as with all things it's not perfect. Being on a course shared between two schools meant sometimes there was a lack of organisation and felt like we were forgotten about sometimes.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
Facilities are very good within the uni with plenty of libraries, computer rooms etc There are a multitude of services on campus including a doctors surgery, dentists, IT repair, shops and banks. There are good sports facilites.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
If needed the student support is very good. There is the student advice centre which is available for any student for a multitude of problems, including checking over contracts when house-hunting and money advice. There are also good counselling services, money advice and support from subject tutors and hall tutors.
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
I think the SU is very good if it is taken full advantage of but I haven't ever used it much. Societies-wise the SU is great, having hundreds of different societies to help to continue or start a new hobby. The SU bar Mooch is nice enough but considering the size of the uni is a bit small!
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
I love the city. It is vibrant and packed full of interesting places to shop, eat and visit. There is something for everyone. The public transport is amazing and at £1 for a student single, it is easy to explore the city by bus. There are a number of different big clubs, and every night is a different clubs official night for Nottingham Uni keeping things fresh and interesting.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
There are hundreds of societies available all year to join. Freshers fair in September and refreshers fair in January sees them all on show so people can try something new all the time. There is a great variety in societies and you feel something is missing you can start a society yourself.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The choice of courses is I think very good, as I wanted to do a very particular course and Nottingham was one of only two which ran it. The course itself was mostly good, but perhaps because of being part of two schools there was often a lot of repetition even in the same term. Lecturers I have found to be generally very good, with enthusiasm about their subjects and a good ability to convey information to students.
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Job prospects appear to be very good after studying in Nottingham. They offer a great careers service which is open to anyone to get help. They also offer the advantage award which students can earn by undertaking a number of extra curricular modules designed to show employers a range of skills.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
Accomodation varies a lot depending where you live. On campus it varies from hall to hall, but my room was a decent size with a good amount of storage and everything I needed. It was quite expensive but I opted for an en-suite room in catered halls so I suppose you pay for the convenience. Other rooms I have seen have also been a decent size with good storage.
