My initial thoughts about coming to RGU have most definitely exceeded my expectations, now half way through my undergraduate degree. I have been highly impressed with the additional support teaching staff provide to students and the dedication they have to ensuring that we get the most out of our learning experience. Something that makes RGU unique as a university in Scotland is the emphasis on the practical skills aspect of our learning and developing our skills and practical applications of our learning to prepare us for the workplace. The university as a whole creates a social and welcoming environment to students and emphasises the importance of the social aspect of university, with an immense range of extracurricular activities to get involved in and I think as students, it is great to see that the university values our needs out with our learning and taking time to relax and escape from the stresses that studying can bring at times.

I was initially attracted to the BSc (hons) Biomedical Science course due to the wide variety of subject areas and scientific disciplines that are covered within the course and the great breadth of knowledge I would be able to gain over a range of disciplines with the hope of progressing more specifically into one of these research disciplines upon further education. Once again the incorporation of practical learning and opportunities for placements embedded within the applied route, made me appreciate the importance RGU emphasised in practical learning and development of working skills throughout our degrees, and not solely on the theoretical aspects. I have enjoyed being challenged in the learning gained throughout my modules and building upon my knowledge and understanding when moving forward, and being able to make connections and apply learning in a practical sense has really helped to build my confidence in the knowledge I now have gained and look forward to challenging myself in further years. The course has exceeded my expectations on all parts, as not only have I gained a vast range of knowledge and practical skills within my first two years but the external support provided regarding information on potential career paths and opportunities for professional development has been excellent in allowing me to expand upon my skills out with my degree and give me a detailed understanding of the future opportunities my course brings, where I now have a clear plan of my career and further education ambitions from this external support. The emphasis on professional development across all PALS courses is something I have been very impressed with as a student and something I hadn’t considered when applying.
