Really great facilities for science subjects in Cardiff, I've done two lab placements in really exciting research buildings which most of our lecturers do their research in. Libraries are generally good, wish the science library was open for longer on the weekends. Facilities in terms of working appliances would be good! The libraries all have boiling water points but they aren't properly maintained so they've never been working when I've tried to use them. Student experience is overall nice, I've made some great friends through various group activities my course put together.

Course hours on average are around 6 hours a week minimum (3 modules, 2 hrs per week each). The quality of teaching really varies across topics, but for most neuroscience topics it's very clear how passionate our lecturers are so I feel comfortable reaching out for extra help whenever I need it. Feedback on coursework is really good as well (generally, again depends on your marker, but there is the option to ask for more feedback and organise 1-1s with your marker if you really want them to explain how you could improve). The student experience in the school of biosciences is definitely improving, it seems like they actually want all biosci students to become friends and also like they actually want students to be happy.

Variety of libraries alongside the SU and CSL which all provide ample spaces to study. Libraries are perfect for quiet work whereas SU and CSL provide an atmosphere where you can eat and talk to your friends every so often. The location is perfect. My biosciences building is right beside the SU and subsequently five minutes from my student house. Cathays is a perfect student area with all the services you need no more than fifteen minutes from where you live (e.g. pharmacy, food shops, hairdressers, tailors, launderette, university building, library). There is a wealth of student support ranging from the SU wellness support to in course wellness reps and personal tutors. Everything from financial support to academic support to mental health support is well covered. The campus is a great mix of modern, function and prestigious. The student's union club y plas is a huge highlight. Being able to go out in a safe environment that is close to home and filled with many people you know and recognise. Overall, all these factors make student life at Cardiff great!

I have a career mentor supplied to me by through the career mentoring scheme the university hosts. My mentor helped me in securing a research internship for this summer and has been a great deal of help in general. My course content is extremely interesting and well taught. In particular, the year 1 biosciences head of year Dr Isaac Myers is exceptional. Weekly email reminders, brilliant open communication and many opportunities throughout the year to provide feedback. My subject facilities i.e. mainly laboratories are always well prepared, clean and make the teaching process smooth. I have good communication with my tutor and have emailed him for advice on a. few occasions. In addition we have in person meetings 1-2 times a term. I am confident in my career prospects and many talks are hosted by the biosciences society and within the university to garner this confidence.

Taybont Court is one of the more expensive university halls in Cardiff University but for the most part you are getting what you pay for. Bigger flats with less people, larger rooms with more storage and sofas are all part of the perks. The property management was wonderful with quick maintenance and it was easy to go to the front desk with any queries/to collect post. In addition they responded to emails very quickly. I felt very safe as you needed a key to get in and security was often around to check IDs. The only downside is like most of the talybont accommodations it is bit far from general cathays student area, the SU and usually your building.
