More support for mature/commuting students.

Bangor is a great place to study if you have a keen interest for the natural world due to its location, providing you with access to the mountains, miles of coastline and temperate rainforests. But because of this, if that's not your interest you can't get out of Bangor itself then it can feel quite isolating, needing to rely on societies and groups in order to fill the gap and socialise. When it comes to study, I would say Bangor does equip you to succeed in as much as the way you are taught and assessed. And some courses offer a great deal of module choice whereas some others don't (marine biology compared to just biology, the latter having much more module choice). The freedom to change degree between first and second year saved me a lot of trouble after realising I wanted to do some more hard science over environmental science.

Overall I think that Bangor provides all you need to succeed at your degree when it comes to things like teaching quality and fascilities. However on the topics of career prospects and internships, that's really what you make of it rather than what the uni can provide. There are regular careers fairs and whatnot however to help along that process. Tutorials were a large part of first year but only involved completing one essay and one presentation which I felt was a bit lax. Module choice is also strong depending on what degree you take which is very helpful in making things interesting as you proceed with studies and the freedom to change courses easily between first and second year was very helpful.

Ffriddoed Village acts as a good dedicated halls complex with mulitple buildings with varying levels of quality based off age and price. The older halls are perfectly adequate if a bit old, but the benefit being they're priced well. The newer halls are plenty nice but a bit more expensive for not much more really. The halls are centrally located and allow an easy walk to main college and pontio within 20 minutes. Free gym is an extra plus and parking with never an issue as there is plenty, providing a big benefit to staying there if you rely on your car. Some of the halls staff were abrasive when carrying out fire drills or checks, but that was rare and something easily gotten over once things had calmed down. The site is also quite nice in spring and early summer backing onto menai woods and having further access down to the north wales coast path.
