Keele is a lovely, friendly, supportive Uni, people smile and help. The undergraduate teaching is really good with everyone doing their best for you, it feels very supportive. It is really interesting and wide ranging but not easy. The undergraduate facilities are good but there is a problem with the physics/2D materials postgraduate research as the section is only just being set up and much of the equipment is insufficient/unsuitable (it is very expensive and the department is very small) so it is limited in its scope and has to cooperate with other Universities). The campus is beautiful and there is a really good sustainable energy centre (solar farm, wind turbines etc.), there is great interest in sustainability.

The undergraduate BSc Physics course was really good, the teaching was excellent and the subject focus was very useful and interesting. In addition to the usual aspects of theoretical and practical Physics there was a good emphasis on maths and numerical/data analysis which blended well with the practical work. The course was delivered really well through the pandemic too (we even had real time tutorials/problem classes with interactive tablets and effective substitutes for practicals). The research masters has problems as the 2D materials department is very small/still in the early stages of being set up and, because the equipment needed is extremely expensive, this is insufficient, making the scope of research limited and frustrating. There is cooperation with other universities and manufacturers of measuring equipment but this is problematic.
