Sheffield is a great place to study as well as be a student! It has everything in the way of nightlife as well as great facilities. And the novelty never wears off the paternoster. Fantastic and supportive staff, and everything you need is in one place.

I did my undergraduate here and stayed for my master's. I stayed mainly because the department of archaeology is so supportive and inclusive, and for the invaluable support I received by the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service for three years. The Students Union is also great. The downside is that the uni is shutting down the archaeology department and stripping the language department, other humanities departments will probably be next. They mainly care about engineering and they put most of their money there. There's also a lot of striking from the professors since the uni doesn't really listen to their demands.

The course is taught in-person and has a lot of hands-on practical activities in the labs. The tutors are amazing and incredibly supportive and always there to help. You will get to do human dissection at the MTU as part of your anatomy class, which is something we're very grateful about and that not everyone gets to do. It's a very versatile course as you can stay in archaeology or get into forensic science after. The downside is that we don't have fieldwork experience as part of our course, and being a one-year master's course you will have to learn a lot of content in a short amount of time. However the tutors will be there to help you and you will be able to study independently in the lab. Summer digs with the professors are also offered if interested.

It's safer and you'll be able to meet a lot of people. You will be part of a student community and every one will be in your year of study if you're a first year undergraduate. However, compared to Allen Court and other privately owned student accommodations it's older, the rooms and bathrooms are smaller and dirtier. It's more of a student village though and greener, which is nice.
