The campus is Loughborough’s best feature for sure, very convenient to get around and has lots of greenery to enjoy particularly in the summer months, it’s a great place to live. Individual departments have their strengths and weaknesses but the school of science is very strong for its area and has amazing lab and study facilities, as well as very supportive academics and technicians. Wider university facilities are a bit more limited because higher level sport is always prioritised so lesser sports or societies can sometimes miss out. Some halls are also outdated and common rooms need more to them. The student support can be really good for one off sessions like well-being advisors or careers support, but for more long term help the waiting lists are so long and don’t give enough variety of support for these services to be useful. Overall it’s a great place, and there is loads to get involved with as a student and a stunning campus to enjoy, just some minor areas that can be a bit annoying but overall enjoying my 5th year here :)

The department has some really great lecturers who are clearly passionate and keen to help students. All very approachable and being a small cohort it’s very easy to get the help when needed. Lab time was sufficient for each module, and the contact hours weren’t quite as much as timetabled so allowed for some variability. Could perhaps have had more external placement options for the project. The feedback so far for assessments has been good and timely. If you’ve not had experience in analytical chemistry before then this is a good course as they cover basics, if you have done a fair amount before there will be a little bit of repeat of information that is then built on.

Location on centre of campus was great and easily access anywhere on campus in a few minutes. Facilities were great and fixing problems quickly and the cleaners were always very good. Room allocation sort of worked where about half the block got on. Some rooms even in the same block better than others, being next to the drying room meant my room was always very hot but couldn’t open the window fully because I was ground floor. Catered food was okay, was convenient and made me eat but not a big eater so didn’t feel like I made value, and some meals really weren’t great so better missed. Would be better if you eat absolutely anything and are a big eater (ie eat a big hot meal at lunch and dinner)
