I love the fact that my course is one of a kind. Before choosing my programme, I researched other universities in the UK and Essex was the only one that combined translation and interpreting with subtitling. This is definitely a career boost! Another thing I love is the facilities that we have at our disposal for interpreting, which includes conference booths and computer labs with specialised software used by professionals for translation and subtitling. Another thing that was important for me was the fact that I was offered a Latin American scholarship for £ 5,000, which is £1,000 more than the Academic Excellence scholarships that most universities offer. Lastly, I love the fact that Essex is not too far from London, so that allows me to travel into the city from time to time.

As I Mentioned before, the facilities and software we use in my course are top-notch. Having access to them allows me to get a much better idea and understanding of how professionals in my field actually work. One thing I have noticed, though is that most jobs offered are for free-lance translators, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it might take some time building a career from scratch.

I live in a self-contained apartment with my boyfriend and we pay £128 weekly. Even though it’s a bit on the expensive side, there are other aspects of it that make it super convenient. For instance, I save money on transport as all my lectures are within a few minutes’ walking distance. Also, we have stores, a theatre, restaurants and even a club on campus so it’s not super necessary to go into town unless we’re looking for something very specific.

As an older student, my last memories and understandings of education are from over 18 years ago when i finished secondary school at 15. as such, I wasn't sure what to expect. Thankfully, I could never have imagined how good it is at the University of Essex. i wish i had done this so much sooner. From being able to use any of the facilities almost 24/7, all of which are top-notch - especially the library, ive never seen one like it. You're never more than 50m from a computer lab or a toilet, all of which are clean to the highest standards. I haven't experienced them in my course, but the media rooms, sports science rooms, and healthcare wings are also of the very highest grade. the staff are amazing, none of which treat it as just a job and all of which are happy to help and support in any way, and everyone on the campus has their own email and are only a message away. the students are all happy to be here, and who wouldn't be, the classes are engaging, the lectures are informative and helpful, the services are plentiful and the opportunities are everywhere. after only 6 months, I've become a student rep, helping bridge the gap between the faculty and my student cohorts, I've been to several clubs, extra-curricular revision classes, watched sports, attended activities and events in the club and bars, and met plenty of great people. i have my own home and family off-campus, but sometimes it envy those who spend all their time on site!

Everything you could possibly need for your subject/course is at your fingertips. books, computers, lecture notes, mock exams, quizzes, classwork sheets, everything can be accesses through your university ID on the website. This is especially handy if you happen to miss a lecture or class for any reason.

havent spent too much time in colchester, but there are many districts to it and very diverse. rich history too, as i believe it is actually the oldest recorded roman town in the country
