OVERALL UNIVERSITY RATING
Tell us about your overall college experience so far.
I have been at Stamford college since September last year. I joined late and was worried about making friends and fitting in. However, I had absolutely no problems as both staff and students were so polite and friendly from day one. My wonderful tutor helped me catch up quickly without giving me too much stress in one go. The food that the college provide is tasty and the cantina staff are lovely are friendly. I feel so safe and at ease in the college environment. The college also accepts and welcomes people of all abilities, genders, sexuality and race. Offering a number of facilities and support such as non-gendered toilets and LGBT support for those who may need it. The academic support given is fantastic. The college offers extra maths and English one on one learning support and group lessons which allows people who struggle with maths and English to not fall behind and be given a disadvantage against class peers. College is a place of equality. I never enjoyed being in education or going to school. However, I really look forward to going into college when I wake up in the morning and I will be very sad to leave at the end of this year.
How does your college make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
Variety of talking on what opportunities are available after college. Careers department always have an open door and email address for questions and advice. College lectures are amazing at helping point you in the right direction.
Course and Lecturers
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
I like the freedom we are given to express our artistic skill. I enjoy how it is a practical course and and we are given a guideline of what to do but are able to develop it in our own way. I really like how we are taken on a number of trips to help increase our knowledge during the research period of our projects. I really enjoy the work shops as they able us to experience different areas of the creative world each week, gaining new skills and understandings.
How many contact hours per week do you have?
How good are your college's facilities?
Excellent. Modern and provide us with all the equipment we need to complete our work to the best standard possible. Amazing spaces across the campus which are of a high standard. The art block definitely stands out most to me because of its impressive amounts of equipment, class space and amazing, helpful staff.
How good is the support offered by the college? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
Posters are up across the college offering health support and advice. There are helplines you can call or drop in sessions you can attend. Tutors are very friendly and are a helpful person to talk to if you have any concerns and need advice on where to seek help and advice. The support has really helped me and I am so pleased with the process they offer.
