Midwifery: excellent clinical facilities and staff who go above and beyond to improve their teaching and our learning year on year. The course program is very well led and managed. Student support, both from the department, and more widely, is excellent. Facilities for students are great. There has been a huge amount of building in Coventry in the last decade for student housing. There's a theatre, art gallery, music venues and sports centres. Campus feels well cared for and safe. Coventry is a vibrant, young city in the centre of England with excellent travel links. Birmingham, Oxford and London are all within reach by train. Locally, Coventry has a wide range of shops, Leamington 10 miles away is very pretty with lots to see.

The course is a new curriculum for 2021/2, with students now based in placement for 50% of the time and the balance focused on academic study. Placements are in Coventry, Warwick and Nuneaton hospitals and community placements are in all areas surrounding. It is worth considering travel time to placement when deciding where to live. Placements are allocated on term time address. Overall, trust staff are invested in student learning and engaged in supporting them. Placement is well organised and support is avaiable. Students work 37.5 hours a week on placement, over 7 days a week, including nights and 12 hour day shifts. There is no allowance made for child care, which is worth being aware of in advance. In addition to the attendance on site, students are also expected to do reflections during placement, although these are not assessed. Academic teaching is divided between on campus and online by zoom or teams. Lectures are well planned and structured. 100% attendence is essential. Each module has assessment elements including multiple choice, computer based tests, practical clinical exams and essay based assessment. It is expected that students will be self motivated and work beyond the classroom, Staff are very responsive and helpful when asked for support with learning. Starting placement is daunting, and there is a huge amount to learn and practise. You need to be enthusiatic and motivated, happy to work shift hours and study independently. Any experience which helps develop communication skills, understanding people, learning new skills and responding to feedback would be useful. The course begins with an expectation that students have a detailed understanding of human anatomy and physiology. The course is well run and organised. Staff are supportive and work hard to do their job very well..course is in blocks on uni and placement. Coventry is a great city location, easy to access, plenty to do and see.
