Fairly good value, very central but very basic

So far my time at Strathclyde has been very positive despite a few setbacks at the start of term. I think the university offers more than other universities I also applied to/received offers from so I am glad I can feel I have made a good choice. The university feels well integrated into the local area rather than separate from it.

The academic and sports facilities are good and campus is really nice and well landscaped. I am usually able to get a computer in the library or computer labs if I need to. However I think the university / students' union could do better with regard to food/ drink outlets and shops for things like university clothing, stationary supplies to buy, etc.

Personal support from my department has been good, with regular contact from staff through formal meetings and social events. Temporary disability adjustments were made swiftly by the department which was great. However disability support from the general student support office has been lacking as I am still on the waiting list 7 weeks into the semester with no indication when I will eventually see someone to have formal support in place. I am glad there are drop in support hours for each of my modules but timetable scheduling means I cannot attend as I have other classes on at the same time which is a little frustrating.

Communication from the union could be better as I am not always aware of what facilities are available or what events are coming up. Representation seems good.

Yes, it is very close to the city centre and also food shops etc. It is also very close to most university accommodation, though private accommodation in the area would be too expensive for me to afford.

I do not currently attend any societies or use the gym but there seems to be a lot to choose from.

The course is taught clearly and in depth by staff who are usually enthusiastic about their subject, which I find motivating. I like the arrangements for assessment being split between projects and exams, rather than only being assessed through a final exam at the end of term. I disliked one of my classes taking place entirely before the first semester began, as this was not communicated to me by the university and as a result I missed the 60 hours of teaching for that assessed module.

The university runs a decent number of careers events and emails regularly about relevant opportunities.

The accommodation seems very safe and is located very close to campus and other amenities. I think the accommodation is quite expensive but is a fair price to pay given the size, location and facilities.
