I am loving my course so far, however the only thing that I am not a fan of is St Michael's building, this is because I feel it is very dark and cramped because there is no natural lighting (windows) in the rooms. Myself, and a few other students, feel as though this disadvantages us and our learning because being in a room with no sunlight makes us feel less awake and engaged so we are therefore not getting the most out of learning.

I feel as though some of our lectures (particularly the ones at the start of the year) could have been done online which would have saved me commuting from a far to get to uni. I also feel as though sometimes the lectures just read of a power point which makes me feel like there was no point of me coming into uni because if are only going to read of a powerpoint then I could have just stayed at home. I really like the fact that we get to choose our top choices for placement and the lectures will try and give us our top choices because this means I am less likely having to travel long distances or get accommodation when going on placement.

I think Portsmouth understands the effects uni could have on an individual, so they emphasise mental health support and also make sure there's a variety of events being held in the union to keep everyone happy. And staff are always accommodating. I always check the students union to see what they have going on and have attended quite a few events so far, also the guildhall is great (I saw my first concert there and am seeing Jimmy Carr there soon!) I think the library is amazing, it's huge and open 24/7 which I love as I procrastinate and leave everything until the last possible moment. I'd like to preface that I don't think there's anything bad but just some things I've noticed, some lecturer's have a tendency to create 4 slides of the same information just worded differently. I think more ppl would pay closer attention and be more involved if some unnecessary waffle was cut, also my accommodations' fire alarm drill is soo loud and annoying.

i get emails weekly from lecturer's telling us about placements or work opportunities, which I think is good, though to be honest I'm going to focus more on the placements in Year 2. I study forensic psychology, and my class is mixed with the normal psychology students, which is fine, however only one of my modules in year 1 is completely forensic psychology based. Also I only have 2 days worth of lectures, I'd have thought it would be more but am guessing it will pick up as the years go on. I also think some lecturer's over-explain their points, to the point that there will be numerous slides on the same information but worded differently. I think they could cut some unnecessary information out. Saying this however, they provide examples of their points, but their examples aren't always in the slides, so if we didn't get time to write it or weren't in the lecture we have no way of knowing what the example was, which i find quite frustrating.

theres many work opportunities that portsmouth uni promotes, however saying this i am struggling to get a job. linking in with cost of living it is affecting me more than i'd like to admit but the uni will hold events in which free food/samples are provided.

the location is fine, i have no issues with that as all my lectures are less than a 5 minute walk away. I also think i got lucky with the room i was allocated, as my partner is also in harry law and yet he got a much smaller room than me, and i have so much space, my room and bathroom are bigger than his own. the wifi is very good, very strong, the slight issue is just that it took a few days to get logged in and if you leave campus (even for a short while) or turn your wifi off, you have to log back in as it doesn't automatically remember. i also do feel quite safe in this hall, i've managed to lock myself outside of my room multiple times and security have always helped me even if i call them at 2am asking to be let back in. the issues i have with my halls of residence are these: - there have been many instances where the doors in harry law just don't work and will not respond to the key cards, so i've had where i've been wanting to cook my dinner but have not been able to get into the kitchen, so i've had food spoil because of the doors randomly stop not working - the firealarms -> they are obviously very loud, but loud to the point it visibly shakes and startles people. the firealarm drill used to go off every wednesday at 10am (i have trouble falling asleep, and when i do I sleep in) so this would wake loads of people and force them to stand outside in their pjs in the cold sometimes rain for these weekly firealarm. - some people, myself included, have found bugs in the bathroom and am currently getting it sorted
