The location (Avery Hill campus) is ideal for those wanting to study at a London university with the option to drive and avoid trains if you have a car. Plenty of buses and transport links otherwise. The library is well stocked and works on a great system including ordering in books from other uni sites. I was automatically awarded £350 (as I am situated in a low-income household) which was brilliant as it supported me to purchase textbooks, stationary, and placement equipment including the expensive but brilliant Littman stethoscope! The clinical skills labs are excellently equipped; we piloted new VR hologram equipment where you could witness a birth including the steps and anatomy which was so cool; a life-like mannequin with functions and behaviours that you programme including contractions, birth, and vitals, and the mannequin talked! Support for those with neurodivergent needs is brilliant, the wellbeing team are really helpful with meeting your needs and helping to gain access to additional support such as disability funding to support your studies or 1-1 tutors. The general areas such as the canteen and cafe are okay, good fresh food including starbucks and costa at reasonable prices but there is sometimes a lack of seating anywhere during peak lunchtime. On-site parking can occasionally be a struggle, I suggest allowing plenty of time to find a spot or parking on nearby streets or Sparrows Farm. Student events such as social night outs are not plentiful at Avery Hill campus, there are much more/better at Medway and Greenwich campuses. Overall it's a great university, it might not be city central but it's a more relaxed environment which I prefer with brilliant, supportive lecturers. I received offers from all 5 of my university choices including the renowned King's; however, I knew they were not great when it comes to support when compared to UoG.

The Midwifery course is taught in person, never online (unless there is a reason that impacts the majority of students/staff) which I much prefer. Lecturers are equipped with excellent Midwifery knowledge and experience. Some classes are mixed e.g. Midwives/MH Nurses/Paramedics in a large lecture hall for subjects such as anatomy & physiology or academic skills. This is understandable but it could often be difficult to hear/understand the lecturer due to students talking which is not the lecturers' fault but it impacted my ability to focus and hear what was being said. A lot of people also meant it could take a long time to get through questions. I'm sure this is probably the same case at many other universities though. Clinical skills labs are well equipped with high-tech mannequins and VR hologram headsets making it even more motivating and interesting when learning hands-on. Most lecturers teach by putting up a presentation on-screen and talking/explaining through it which I find helpful as multiple stimuli helps me in my learning. Some "old-school" lecturers however only talk for a while about subjects or their experiences without anything on screen, and I find this difficult when it comes to absorbing information. All lecturers are however fantastic and supportive people including the programme lead. Training for the electronic Midwifery Ongoing Record of Achievement (eMORA) needs to be improved prior to students' first placement as this made placement more stressful. The eMORA itself is difficult to manage and navigate, especially during placement, compared to the previous printed version but this is the standard in most universities now. Choice of placement is very fair; you are given the opportunity to put down your 1st and 2nd choice of Trust/hospital and they take into consideration everyone's travel times, distances, and use of car and public transport. I received my 2nd choice but I do drive so I was prepared for this outcome and am overall very happy in my placement at Darent Valley Hospital. You are provided with some uniforms including 2 tunic tops, 1 trousers, 1 scrubs top and 1 scrubs trousers. This is not enough but you are able to purchase more, however this can take a long time to receive orders and aren't cheap by any means. Having only 1 set of scrubs is far from ideal especially if you are working in Delivery Suite for 4 days during one week. You do not however necessarily need to purchase books unless you want to or would like latest editions as what you need is available in the library or online as ebooks.

Brilliant location for those looking for a London-based university and the option to travel by car rather than trains or buses - if you drive that is! Otherwise, local transport links are excellent. I am based at Avery Hill campus which doesn't have a lot going on in the local area but isn't far to get to central London or other surrounding towns. There is a petrol garage very closeby including a small M&S which is helpful, along with a parade of shops and small restaurants.

The Best aspect of the uni experience is that the teaching staff and university student resources are exceptional. The extra-curricular activities the Hub all is way too good. and the worst aspect is the Medway there could be improvements in the building.

There is nothing worse about the course except one thing that could be improved is that the labs should be consecutive rather than having 4 labs in 4 weeks there should be 4 straight days and that's it.
