What students say about social-studies

My support team, made me enjoy studying at the University of Greater Manchester, they simplified my subjects into easy, simple and enjoyable course. My tutors were approachable and they teach and not lecture, carrying everyone of us along. There is always room for questions at the end of each lecture. One of my worst university experience is having to share toilet and bathroom with other students who don't always keep it clean as it should be. I have to be the one who keeps both the toilet and bathroom and kitchen clean always and this makes me unhappy because I feel I am being taken advantage of, even after I try talking to them, they still repeat the same thing every day. So I am not happy about it. Apart from that, university of Greater Manchester is a place to be, I enjoyed every experience.

One of the best parts of studying at Roehampton University is the friendly and supportive environment. The lecturers explain topics clearly and are always willing to help when students have questions. The campus is peaceful, with good facilities like the library, study rooms, and social spaces, which makes it a comfortable place to learn. I also enjoy meeting classmates from different countries and backgrounds because it helps me learn new ideas and understand different cultures. The teaching style at Roehampton makes learning easier and more enjoyable. Seminars and group activities help me understand the lessons better, and the coursework is practical, helping me connect what I learn to real-life situations. I feel that the university encourages students to think independently and build confidence. Overall, I feel supported in my studies, and this has helped me grow both academically and personally. Even though my experience has been positive, there are some areas that could improve. Sometimes the workload feels heavy, especially when deadlines are close together. Communication about certain tasks or readings can be unclear at times. More career support, part-time job opportunities, and more flexible timetables would also make things easier for students. However, these challenges are common in most universities, and Roehampton still offers a good overall student experience.

Portsmouth University is in a great location- I really love the proximity to the sea! It is a very walkable city so university buildings are really easy to get too. Overall, I have found the student support exceptional, particularly when needing help from disability student advice. They really want you to succeed. There are also so many opportunities to meet new people in societies and sports clubs. To improve, maybe timetables could be arranged so that students get guaranteed days off to work a part time job?

What students say about social-studies

The university of Chichester has is nice close knit campus that is inclusive and a great place to be if you don’t want to feel like just a number! The university is very welcoming and the staff and students look out for each other. The campus is well kept although some areas could do with updating (Residential halls!). The nightlife in Chichester isn’t as good as other places but there are plenty of pubs nearby if that’s your thing.

What students say about social-studies

The campus is absolutely gorgeous! A wonderful mix of old and new, castles and modern buildings. Reserving rooms encourages students to get out of their rooms and study anywhere on campus, from the top of the castle tower, to the communal "pods" at Commons. The Student Union building has a bar and a small shop, and activities going on almost every day. Karaoke every other Saturday is one of my favourites. Close enough to the city of Bath for easy access, while still having the feeling of a university town. Lots of student discounts and student bars/clubs in town, as the University of Bath is also nearby. Interesting classes, lovely lecturers and guest lecturers, and proper assessments. Few, if not none, tests, allowing for those who do not thrive with simple memorization to show off how they learn. The diversity of students encourages the broadening of your own world view. A wide range of courses, allowing for study into incredibly specific topics. The main issue with the university is the wait time for wellbeing appointments, as it can take up to four months to even get a foot in the door. This means that if you do need help, it is very difficult to achieve. Also, while it isn't the university's fault, it is important to know that the First Bus system is not very reliable, so if you have a job in town, it is quite nerve-wracking.

Studying at Birmingham City University in the Curzon building is great because of the modern facilities, comfortable study spaces, and central location, which makes everything convenient. It could be improved by adding more quiet study areas during busy times and better communication about timetable updates.

What students say about social-studies

It is a great place to study because it is a culturally diverse university, has affordable tuition, and students get equipped with both theoretical and practical experience to be skilled in their area of specialisation. This can be improved by providing more academic support for students.

UCEN Manchester

What students say about social-studies

Facilities (5) - I truly believe that my degree is perfectly accommodated for just by looking at the facilities on offer. Not only that, but the actual hive bar is brilliant and there is lots of space for everyone. Location (3) - Although the building itself looks fabulous where it is, to get there you have to cross a very busy main road that sometimes can be dangerous and with it being outside of the AO arena, it makes it hard being there when a concert or show is on. With that being said however, the fact it is barely a 10 minute walk from Victoria station makes it very easy for me as a commuter. Student Support (4) - I believe that UCEN goes above and beyond when trying to support students, particularly with their schemes on offer to help those less financially stable. The only thing I’d say is maybe make it a bit more obvious where to access these support by putting posters up around the campus. Campus Look and Feel (5) - It is clear that there has been a lot of work gone into the campus itself which makes it a really beautiful and welcoming place to be. The campus actually featured on the latest season of Waterloo Road so I am pretty sure that this only goes to show how incredible it is. Student Life (4) - As far as I am aware, as a commuter student, the campus is brilliant for somebody like me as I can easily get there everyday providing the trains are running, but I do feel that with the location of the campus, students find it relatively difficult to find accommodation on offer around it, and therefore, this can make it difficult for students to really get to grips with student life when not being close to the campus or city centre. Students Union (5) - The students union is always thriving, there is always something going on that they have put together in the hive, and it is really a pleasure to get involved in these things and take a break from the degree for a moment. Whether that be painting or putting on a movie night, they really do go above and beyond. They also promote our concerts and events which is lovely to see.
