The University of Hertfordshire has great facilities, but there are quite a few unnecessary procedures that could be streamlined, such as booking appointments for even the smallest matters. My experience so far has been disappointing from an academic perspective. I was expecting better quality education, but instead, most of the lectures consist of simply reading from PowerPoint slides, and the practical sessions have been far from engaging. While I understand that self-study is important, not all students, especially international ones like myself, have prior industrial experience or expertise. It's crucial that the university recognizes this and provides clearer, more detailed information about the curriculum, how exams work, and what is expected in terms of assessments. Relying solely on self-study and putting too much responsibility on the students isn’t fair, especially when we're paying for a quality education.

Facilities (5) - I truly believe that my degree is perfectly accommodated for just by looking at the facilities on offer. Not only that, but the actual hive bar is brilliant and there is lots of space for everyone. Location (3) - Although the building itself looks fabulous where it is, to get there you have to cross a very busy main road that sometimes can be dangerous and with it being outside of the AO arena, it makes it hard being there when a concert or show is on. With that being said however, the fact it is barely a 10 minute walk from Victoria station makes it very easy for me as a commuter. Student Support (4) - I believe that UCEN goes above and beyond when trying to support students, particularly with their schemes on offer to help those less financially stable. The only thing I’d say is maybe make it a bit more obvious where to access these support by putting posters up around the campus. Campus Look and Feel (5) - It is clear that there has been a lot of work gone into the campus itself which makes it a really beautiful and welcoming place to be. The campus actually featured on the latest season of Waterloo Road so I am pretty sure that this only goes to show how incredible it is. Student Life (4) - As far as I am aware, as a commuter student, the campus is brilliant for somebody like me as I can easily get there everyday providing the trains are running, but I do feel that with the location of the campus, students find it relatively difficult to find accommodation on offer around it, and therefore, this can make it difficult for students to really get to grips with student life when not being close to the campus or city centre. Students Union (5) - The students union is always thriving, there is always something going on that they have put together in the hive, and it is really a pleasure to get involved in these things and take a break from the degree for a moment. Whether that be painting or putting on a movie night, they really do go above and beyond. They also promote our concerts and events which is lovely to see.

The lecturers are really knowledgeable and approachable. They have the right people on the course and students all get on well. The classroom is always clean and tidy there is a cafe and vending machines. The college doing free breakfasts for students every weekday morning shows they care about nutrition and the well being of the students. The building on the inside looks well maintained. The technology in class works well. The only thing I would improve the ability to connect to the wifi, I do find it difficult to connect my laptop or tablet to the wifi. The library and the availability of computers to use during the opening hours is really good and enables students to use them especially if they do not possess their own tech devices. I would welcome anyone who is interested in teaching further education to go to bridgend college. It's such an enjoyable experience and will benefit you massively if that is the vocation you choose.

When doing certain apprenticeship schemes, you only spend the one day in uni a week with half of your cohort. This is different fron most standard uni's as you don't get that same social experience. On a positive note, the one on one time you get with your lecturers is great with a small class size really helps you to learn/ understand the course material.

My time here in the two-year course has been quite good overall. When COVID-19 started everything went up the left and the college wasn't able to cope very well, though I feel they are very slowly improving their services and cooperation with students. However, just recently they disabled OneDrive syncing to personal devices so that has made a lot of student's work routines more difficult.
