I feel prepared for placement as the seminars from the PAT sessions and from the PIP were really helpful. I feel prepared for placement from these. And the guest speakers have been incredibly helpful

The town can be great, some places I wouldn't recommend. But the travel is great.

The university has very good facilities such as fully kitted out private study rooms that are available for booking. The university also offers additional qualifications that might be useful to your degree. For example I’m studying childhood studies so the university have funded additional courses related to working with children. They’ve also brought children over from nearby schools to a children’s centre that the staff and students have built together so that we could gain more experience working with children. The university also have exceptional support available for students who are struggling for any reason. There are also many sporting clubs and activities as well as amazing facilities for these. On the other side due to covid all students only attend uni once a week. As a result all students will study one module at a time at a highly condensed rate. This can make it very difficult to complete uni work as everything feels rushed and you may feel that you have no connection to the uni due to hardly being there.

In addition to what I’ve posted in the previous section, my course offers extensive opportunities for professional practice. In my first year I spent 240 hours on placement at a primary school and many of my assignments were linked to my practice at this school. I felt that this enriched my experience learning about children as I had hands on experience and was given many opportunities to reflect and improve. Going into my second year I already feel fully confident in my employability in children and youth services. The biggest negative in my course is that there are not many contact hours at all. Because of this I feel that I don’t know any of my tutors including my personal tutor so I often feel uncomfortable when I have to ask them for assistance. However, they are mostly very approachable but relationships between tutors and students on this course can definitely be improved.
