As a mature student I was so nervous to start studying again. I was put to ease within minutes of attending an open day. Newman offers so much support and I truly feel like I'm part of a family. I have almost completed my first semester and my tutors and peers have helped me find my self belief in such a short period of time. My only regret is that I didn't do this sooner! I am having a great time and have met some life long friends.

My tutors personally have welcomed me with open arms. They engage with us well and have made it their mission to ensure I have felt welcome and supported. I have not had a single negative experience with any tutors. All modules of my course have been relevant and enjoyable to study.

Newman isn't amongst the hustle and bustle of a busy area like some universities are. It's tucked away yet still close enough to travel a short while into the town centre. It is easily accessible by public transport.

This year has been a difficult year to say the least. The transition to online learning was made easy by the university and this has been a highlight for me. Some lecturers have not been as supportive as others and this has proved to be difficult sometimes. Nevertheless, I am going to continue onto another course with Newman.

Although not attending the university campus this year, I have previously found that the campus has been a lovely, clean environment to work in. The starbucks coffee station in the main reception area was always my favourite and this was the ideal pick me up when working in the library.

Emails regarding wellbeing groups, disability groups, mental health support and other various groups are always being distributed. This allows for the groups to be promoted. Although I haven't joined any groups myself, my friend has received lots of help from student support. This has been surrounding her dyspraxia diagnosis and then further help to support her GCSE maths qualification.

Although a huge positive to this course in my third year has been that I can attend lectures via zoom, a small minority of lecturers have not been as awarding. Overall, the standard of teaching has been satisfactory and with the guidance of the more knowledgeable tutors, I believe this course could be outstanding. With this in mind, I do consider that we have been in a pandemic and several of the tutors have left to move on to other things. Previous years have not been as challenging and I have really enjoyed attending Newman University. In the future, I hope the option to remain remotely joining classes as this has meant that my commute isn't an issue.

I currently work in a primary school. This has meant that I haven't needed to access career support so far, however within my course, lots of opportunities and careers have been discussed. This has meant that I have started to consider different job opportunities that I may have when I have finished my whole course.
