Great place

I love it here at Northampton. The Popular Music course is amazing and the lecturers are so passionate about what they do. The students union is really good too. All societies and sports are free and you can get funding for pretty much anything by setting up your own society. Northampton is an incredibly underrated university and I would definitely recommend having a look around.

We have a 24/7 hour access suit of macs with all the arts software you could want installed. This is great for music tech assignments or sleepless nights. The best part though is the 24/7 (booking required) full recording studio which is up to a professional standard. If your a student you can make some of your £9000 a year back but recording an album (or 5) and selling it.

There are loads of people you can go and talk to if you're having issues from night line to employability plus to student services. As well as this the course reps and students union make sure any issue you have is resolved in the best way possible.

If club nights are your thing then there is one pretty much every night up at park campus. If you're like me and like a quieter drink then avenue campus has a range of live music and hosts the famous comedy night.

The town centre is good for shops and has great links to London, Birmingham and Milton Keynes. I have been to a few good pubs and have seen a few pubs with very cheap beer so that's always good. There's lots of live music in northampton. I personally don't like clubbing but bridge street is apparently pretty good.

Societies and sports are free so it's a great opportunity to try something new. I helped start up the harry potter society and have met some great people in doing so. The SU will fund pretty much anything you want to do (including buying pizza). I think it is one of the best SU's for societies and sports in the country from what I've seen.

It is ridiculous how passionate the Popular Music lecturers are. They really care, not only about what they're teaching but about the students welfare too. We are like a big family in the music department.

Subject futures week is a great time to network and get an insight into the job prospects of each course. I have know first years who have internships with spine farm records just from networking at subject futures week.

Halls is really expensive for what it is. I'm not really sure how it compares to other uni's but the only single rooms available on Avenue Campus are nearly £500 a month. There are slightly cheaper rooms on the other campus and a free bus between the two.
