I enjoyed my time at Wolverhampton, others didn't but isn't every university like that? Its what you make of it, there will be good times and bad times, for me the majority was good times. The majority of staff are amazing and always very helpful and knowledgeable, during my time there I only had one lecturer talk down to me and be overly critical which wasnt obviously a good experience but the rest are really nice, the university can be unorganised at times, this is I feel the worst thing about the university. Good points are the uni is always improving things, the uni is located in the city center so easy to travel to and from and good places for lunch near by, staff are enthusiastic about you and are genuinely interested, the course prepared me for the job I got after my degree.
Facilities
How good are your university's facilities?
All software was available but books sometimes had to be fought for.
Student support
How good is the support offered by the uni? Think both academic (tutors/feedback) and personal (counselling, etc).
I had a lot of support from my lecturers and always felt motivated and confident, reception and admin staff are the unsung heros, I had no idea how to work out classifications and what graduating entailed but the student support staff where so great and helped me so much!!
Students' union
What do you think of your Students' Union in terms of student representation and facilities?
Never went in there but it looked nice.
Local life
Is your university in a good location in terms of distance to accommodation and local amenities?
I moved to Wolverhampton to study there, not in uni accommodation though, there are a lot of things to do in the city, people sometimes say its rough but that logic could be applied to any city, me personally I didn't think it was that bad and there are a lot of shops, helps also being a stone throw away from brum, night life is good aswell.
Societies and Sports
How would you rate the variety of societies/sports?
I still participate in the online "web design society", its nice to see lecturers participating and caring even after you have left. Also there is a lot of useful articles and queries shared.
Lecturers and teaching quality
What do you like most and least about the way your course(s) are taught?
The practical side of the course was great, I think some of the theory and assignment writing could of been better, for example the "emerging technologies" module was a bit heavy on the writing front, overall you write about 10,000 words during the module, when you also have a dissertation this isn't the best news to get, also the theory and continuous writing for that module didn't teach me a lot. "Advanced Web Technologies" on the other hand is a fantastic core module, the staff and content on the module is top notch, very fun and enjoyable module. I also took a business consultancy module to give my degree a bit of an edge and considering I hoped to work for a business thought it important to learn about the structure and become an analyst thinker, also lovely lecturers, Sherri will definitely leave a lasting impression and is great to talk to :)
Career prospects
How does your uni make efforts to increase your employability (careers department, work placements, transferable skills)?
I got a job straight after completing my degree and an IT Support Technician, I had to book the day off work for my graduating ceremony.
University halls
What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
I moved into my own flat, if this is the case for anyone else then there are a lot of good flats just outside the city center that are quite cheap and well presented.
