This is a fantastic University if your interests surround anything outdoorsy, environment, agriculture, food or business based. The courses are comprehensive and provide a broad understanding that relates to the UK and wider international economic/business and general climate.
Harper has vast number of quality contacts in its respective industries. From experience, this helps to secure both placement opportunities, graduate roles and general support to students, whether with lectures and contact with Alumni or Scholarships they provide. As a 4th year student, looking at Grad roles, I have found the knowledge and contacts I made during my Industry Placement invaluable in my final year.
Whether you choose to study a broad topic or to specialise in crops or animals, to name a couple of examples, the opportunities and modules are both interesting and relevant.
In terms of student life, this is the best university going. The SU represents an organisation that want to maintain the party culture of Harper Adams, alongside its academic rigour. A broad range of activities, societies and sports are available and the atmosphere speaks for itself when Harper students go out to support. Socials are a great way to make friends across all different circles with wider committees suited to those that are interested in doing something for their clubs and taking responsibility. Newport, the local town, is also the home to many 2nd and 4th years. The local of which is rural but with all the necessary amenities; Liidl, Aldi, Waitrose, Boots, Doctors, and of course many watering holes and a night club we all like to frequent.
Really a great place to study if you're interested in work and play.

Following the pandemic and online teaching, many facilities are still available online as a supplement to in person teaching. The online, recorded lectures are valuable to return to when unsure or when revising. Lecturers are also on hand via email or Microsoft Teams where in person or online calls can take place to support us.
The structure of our learning consists of typically 8 modules, each worth 15 credits, per year. These vary depending on your course. As a crops student, many are alongside straight Agriculture students, especially first year where learning is the same. All modules are valuable in understanding the food chain and wider industry.
2nd year;
Straight Modules - Crop Protection Technology, Grass and Forage Production, Farm Business Management and Economics, Waste Manures and Renewables and Research Methods
Crop Specific - Crop Growth and Management and Fresh Produce.
4th year;
Straight Modules - Applied Crop Protection, People Management Skills and Sustainable Crop Production Systems
Crop Specific - Plant Breeding, Post Harvest Technology, Advanced Agronomy
Alongside 4th year, an Honours Research Project allows us to really delve into an area related to our own interests and complete a dissertation worth 2 x 15 credit modules, as this is specific to our own learning, our contact hours are greatly reduced to allow our independent study.

What do you think about the safety, condition, location and cost of your accommodation?
The facilities are very basic! In catered accommodation a fee is payed at the beginning of the academic year, covering food, housing, water, electricity, wifi, parking and washing. Though the rooms are not as comfortable as a perhaps our own personal rooms, they are perfectly adequate. The food is very good, with numerous options, catering for dietary requirements and with good portion sizes. You will never go hungry. One very useful part is the washing and ironing, whereby you leave dirty washing out of an evening, to have this collected, washed, ironed and returned (and no nothing was ever shrunk or lost!)
