About the Course
This programme has been designed to meet the demand for a postgraduate route into post compulsory teaching to closely meet the needs of graduates. The course will give trainee teachers the skills and confidence they need to become an effective teacher
It is aimed at graduates either currently in / or seeking to pursue a career in the wider education sector and it has been informed by the most recent developments in educational research and government policy.
Trainee teachers will analyse the many changes currently affecting the further education sector and will develop their knowledge of various teaching approaches and techniques to become a skilled and reflective teacher. It supports trainees to transition into relevant careers and / or progress in their educational roles as teachers committed to their own professional development. Furthermore, it actively promotes inclusion, social justice through their current and future practice.
This course focuses on developing teaching skills, and not on the subject intended to teach. For this reason, trainee teachers are expected to have a good understanding of their chosen subject(s) before starting training. PGCE Young People and Adult Specialists is a Level 7 (Masters Level) programme.
Method of Study
On this programme you will attend taught sessions and seminars alongside carrying out your 100hrs teaching practice. These sessions include a combination of yearlong and individual modules that are aligned to meet the assessment needs of the programme and have a strong focus on the development of teaching strategies and approaches. This philosophy is based upon the importance of learning through experience and therefore utilises a wide range of teaching and learning methods, which trainees can reflect upon and adapt for use within their own practice. The content and order of delivery ensure the maximisation and transfer of knowledge from the taught session to the trainee. There is an element of independent study to be carried out as this will further solidify the content delivered within the taught sessions.
Hold a good level degree in the subject area you are wanting to teach, You must have a proficient standard of language, literacy, numeracy, and ICT. These areas will be assessed through your application and as part of the induction process.
