Where will this course lead?
The UAL Awarding Body Diploma in Art & Design - Foundation Studies is a pivotal qualification, which provides a transition from general education to specialist art and design education. This one year stand alone course is designed to bridge the gap between college and university. This enables art and design foundation studies students to make an informed decision when applying to Higher Education or seeking employment within a related industry. The programme therefore builds on students' prior experience, linking skills already acquired with ideas and challenges, which will expand their critical independence and enable them to demonstrate a full understanding of the relevant standards necessary to progress to Higher Education or to a career of their choice.
What will I study?
UAL Awarding Body qualifications are characterised by academic rigour and student centred learning culture, encompassing: analytical principles; exploratory and investigative practices; contextual research and material experiences. These are delivered through a coherent and integrated sequence of learning activities which will enable students to identify and capitalise. You have the ability to be flexible in how you respond to the art and design foundation studies briefs and specialise in your own art practice, while receiving feedback and workshops in broad base disciplines.
We regularly review our course content, to make it relevant and current for the benefit of our students. For these reasons, course modules may be updated, please contact us for the latest information.
How will this course be delivered?
You will study up to a maximum of 20 hours per week over a maximum of 4 days. Classes generally run between 9am-5pm but may vary.
Timetables will be given to all students during enrolment and induction week.
There are 7 units across the year of the programme.
What qualifications will I get?
You will achieve a UAL Diploma in Art & Design - Foundation Studies at pass, merit or distinction.
How will I be assessed?
All 7 units during your foundation studies in art and design will be internally assessed and internally verified through student's portfolios of evidence and are subject to UAL Awarding body's external quality assurance.
How do I get a place on the course?
You must complete an application form. Once your application has been registered you will be invited to attend an interview to determine your suitability for the subject and level.
Places on the course are offered following a successful interview where you must present a portfolio of your work and produce a positive reference.
You will also be invited to attend a welcome day in late June, where you will have the opportunity to view an exhibition of current students work, meet the teaching team and other students who will be beginning the foundation studies in art and design course in September.
