This course focuses on all aspects of Sound Design and Production. Grounded in sonic principles for theatre and performance, students learn about all roles in a sound team - Sound Designer, Production Engineer, Playback Operator, Sound #1 (mixing for Musicals) and Sound #2&3 (learning the art of radio mic fitting and running). This course focuses on all aspects of Sound Design and Production. Grounded in sonic principles for theatre and performance, students learn about all roles in a sound team - Sound Designer, Production Engineer, Playback Operator, Sound #1 (mixing for Musicals) and Sound #2&3 (learning the art of radio mic fitting and running). In addition, smaller projects on the course explore subjects such as Immersive Audio, Game Audio, Sound and Composition for Short Film, Sound Art, Recording and Editing for Broadcast and Audio Books.Beginning with the basic principles of acoustic theory and technical fundamentals students will explore sonic dramaturgy and learn to build aural worlds using state of the art equipment and software including computer-based show control programs, audio recording software, waveform editing, digital mixing engines and audio networking.Through the course students will work individually and in groups, problem-solving by working as part of a collaborative company of performance-makers, amassing all the skills needed for the emerging field of Sound Design and Production for performance. Training in this area is ideal for those from a theatre background or those with an interest in music/composition or sound making, led by active professionals in the field.This course leads to the qualification of BA (Hons) Theatre Practice.
