Our BA Theatre and Performance degree works with your interests to help you become independent, innovative theatre makers. At Northumbria, you will:
Learn through practice and be taught by award-winning, internationally celebrated lecturers in a student-centered teaching environment.
Develop skills and gain experience that prepare you for work in theatre, the creative industries, and beyond.
Work directly with industry professionals and gain real-world experience.
Develop a final year production, working as a small ''theatre company'' with your peers, positioning you as a future creative leader.
What kind of career will this course prepare me for?
The BA (Hons) Theatre and Performance course expands career horizons by developing your professional skills and knowledge across a range of areas. Northumbria's Theatre and Performance students have gone on to work with diverse employers, including local authorities, Northern Stage, Live Theatre, the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, and theatres nationwide.
If you choose to study on this programme, you could go on to become an actor like graduates Riley Jones, Josie Cerise and Jake Jarratt to work in a theatre company like Jessica Whittle or even to set up and run your own theatre like Ali Pritchard, founder of Alphabetti Theatre.
Other careers which our graduates have embarked on include: producer, arts administrator, events production coordinator, marketing and communications, teachers, and further study.

How does this course increase my employability?
From the beginning you'll engage directly with our professional theatre connections and partnerships through skills training, work experience and other opportunities in professional settings.
Developing key skills - Working with regional, national, and international organisations, you'll develop transferable skills favoured by employers including networking, negotiation, communication, evaluation, co-production and reflective analysis. Managing your own creative and research projects, working in teams to solve creative challenges, and responding to live briefs in assessments ensures that employability is at the heart of your studies.
Further Study - For those who wish to pursue their knowledge and interests further, we provide masters courses in Arts MRes or Digital and Immersive Arts MA. Our graduates have also gone on to undertake PhDs with us.
Careers Service - The university's Graduate Futures careers service provides in-person and online career and employability support for five years after you graduate.
