This programme will give you a strong understanding of sustainable tourism. You will develop an awareness of the cultural and environmental issues influenced by tourism and be able to apply critical and practical solutions. You will evaluate sustainable tourism as a response to local and global challenges experienced within and beyond the tourism industry. Discover policies and practices for the management of sustainable tourism and how these can be used to address environmental and cultural issues. You will be equipped with intellectual and research skills that will enable you to assess complex, real-world problems and develop innovative solutions. The programme will enhance your appreciation of sustainable leadership approaches and how such approaches can be engaged with in differing cultures and contexts. There are a number of interesting roles and entrepreneurial opportunities within tourism in the public and private sectors such as working for tour companies, heritage attractions, museums, and hotel groups. Specific jobs include policy officers, destination managers and sustainability assessors. You could also work as a consultant in business, as part of a local, national or international government team and on planning bodies (such as the UN's World Tourism Organization or the World Travel and Tourism Organization). There has also been a recent increase in roles within the third sector, designed to support sustainable transitions within tourism.
