The MSc Supply Chain Management prepares you for a range of management careers in logistics, procurement, supply chain, inventory and transportation. You develop the attributes and skills expected of postgraduates, as recognised by professional industry bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS), while gaining practical knowledge of important concepts, tools and methodologies including JIT, Lean and Designing and Managing the Supply Chain.
What will you study?
Studying our Supply Chain Management MSc course will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need for the integrative management of organisations and their supply chain networks. You will be exposed to the developments and dimensions involved in designing a modern supply chain and examine key issues in its management within our Designing and Managing the Supply Chain unit. To do so, you will be taught to assess state of the art models and solutions used in the design, control, operation and management of supply chain systems. At the same time, this unit incorporates elements of Information Technology while considering customer value and international issues in supply chain management.
Similarly, you will develop a solid understanding of supply chain and logistics concepts in our Integrated Supply Chain and Logistics Management unit. Here, you will consider key components in supply chain management such as demand estimation, dealing with uncertainty, packaging issues in transportation and managing inventory. This will allow you to understand the key challenges of integrating areas such as procurement, processing and distribution with proper management and control in supply chain operations.
In addition, you will consider an increasingly important element to supply chain management in a contemporary business environment – sustainability. Business Sustainability in Practice will expose you to business impacts on the natural environment while allowing you to consider how these impacts can be managed to improve the environmental sustainability of large and small businesses to meet its obligations – such as transition to net or zero greenhouse gas emissions or other pollutants. You will also be introduced to the concept of environmental management systems and the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) that will allow you to enhance your management skills and assess business and management practices to develop strategic and operational opportunities to embed sustainability more deeply throughout an organisation.
Careers
The successful completion of your MSc provides a strong foundation to seek career opportunities in a variety of positions and can open up the potential for fast-track career progression.
You will have the skills to work in logistics and distribution supply-chain management purchasing forecasting and planning or warehousing.
You will also be well prepared for further research study and many students continue to work towards the MPhil or PhD.
Students should have a 2.2 honours degree or equivalent in a related subject area.
