University of Brighton

Student support is top notch, no doubt. Events and clubs to join aplenty. I always get things recommended in my newsfeed. Engaging classes. Buildings are really cool, facilities for learning, as well as libraries (they better be with the tuition fee costs). However, they retired the free ‘Brighton Uni’ ‘UB1’ bus based on (I’m paraphrasing here) “not enough people were soliciting it “ and word for word saying (this is from the email I got from the uni about the discontinuation of the bus) “ feedback has highlighted that many students found that the service did not meet their needs for travel between sites for teaching and learning” which I find very strange since it was a FREE, designed and designated service for students and staff to use, for the sole purpose of going to and from campus/facilities/town?? Not taking into consideration that they didn’t advertise it properly, every time I used that bus, it was full, still. I suppose they saw the money actually going towards something beneficial and decided to cut it. That opens a whole new can of worms, considering in 2023 the university cut 103 staff jobs causing a massive strike. I wonder who the manager is? Us students and (I imagine) professors are hoping someone competent and not money crazy will one day come to make things right.

Uni of brighton has brilliant lectures and great work spaces but for the money isn't a good deal, and some aspects of teaching can be very very disorganised which makes getting assessments done really difficult!

Brighton is a brilliant place to study due to the lively culture here and the welcoming people too, it made it really easy to fall in love with Brighton and settle in quickly. The support team at the University of Brighton is also wonderful, it is an easy process to contact them and arrange any appointments and they do their very best to offer all the support they can. I think it could be improved by perhaps a stronger society focus, whilst we have societies I generally do not hear about them and there's not tons of variety apart from different sports.

Great location, night life and student union led activities. However buildings worn, cold and noisy with building work, the actual university offering no support or leeway with strike action occurring. Dealt with extremely poorly.

Worst aspects have been being promised a student union bar for January then getting told it's September instead. The best has been meeting new people and making new friends as well as developing confidence.

The university free bus was cancelled the year I started to attend which means I have to pay extra money that I currently do not have to pay for a bus that everyone in the town gets so if it gets full up you either walk (60 minutes) or wait another 40-50 minutes for the next bus and hope it is not as packed.
