Set yourself up to compete as a marketer in the fast-paced sport business sector by joining us on this master’s in sport marketing, based in the heart of London’s Olympic Park. Marketing and sponsorship are critical sources of income for teams and organisations across elite sport. Sport marketing is also a key and growing business area for sportswear manufacturers, sport events, fitness brands and gambling companies. On this course, you’ll get a solid grounding in topics like marketing strategy design, market research, sponsorship, social media strategy, digital storytelling and PR. Crucially, you’ll apply these in the context of sector-specific dynamics such as timings, partnerships and the global scope of sport – so you have the expertise to succeed in this highly competitive field. The aims of this module are to understand the challenges and benefits associated with the translation of raw data insights from large organisational datasets to simple, actionable recommendations presented to non-technical audiences. Using the seven elements of digital storytelling as a conceptual framework, the module will take a big data/decision analytics perspective, discussing the technical aspects of digital storytelling within the context of the organisational roles of a data scientist and data analyst to effectively communicate data insights.
The aims of this module are to give the student the opportunity to study a subject, business problem or research question in depth and to research the issues surrounding the subject or background to the problem. The module will equip the student with the relevant skills, knowledge and understanding to embark on their individual research project and they will be guided through the three options available to them to complete their dissertation: A desk based research project that could be set by an organisation or could be a subject of the student's choice. A project that involves collection of primary data from within an organisation or based on lab and/or field experiments, A full professional placement within an organisation during which time they will complete a project as part of their role in agreement with the organisation (subject to a suitable placement position being obtained).
