At every level of study, you will develop vocationally relevant experience and skills such as event management, strategic and economic planning, social media management, and sport marketing. You will also develop transferable skills in areas such as communication, negotiation, teamwork, leadership, and problem solving.
Programme modules respond to the distinctive needs of international sports organisations. Therefore, the course has been designed from the outset as a sports management degree, rather than a business degree with a few sports modules attached. Learning in this sport-rich environment provides numerous opportunities for you to engage in CPD, volunteering, access a variety of sports networks, and undertake a placement with a local sports organisation.
Due to our unique learning and teaching experience, you will graduate from our degree with a rounded knowledge of specific and transferable management skills, which are desirable to a variety of graduate-level employers.
We appreciate the demands of combining study and soccer development so, where possible, we ensure our student-athletes benefit from maximised time in both the classroom and on the pitch. Timetabling is done in such a manner that means academic study will typically be taught in the morning with soccer activities taking place in the afternoon.
Sport is a competitive, fast-paced, growing industry offering a wealth of high-profile exciting careers. Studying Sport Management at Northumbria will ensure that you are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to meet the challenges and opportunities provided by sports in the 21st century.
We make your personal-professional development and career planning a priority across all years of study with us and you will develop your knowledge and understanding of the graduate labour market, and of current trends in graduate recruitment and selection, applying this to your career planning.
We offer several additional opportunities to enhance your CV, develop your employability or enterprise skills, and increase commercial awareness opportunities may include work placements, overseas travel and study, guest speakers and networking. There are also volunteering programmes both within and outside the University, and representing your course at Programme or School level.

As an i2i student-athlete, you will be in a unique position to prepare yourself for a career both inside and outside of soccer. Whether you are looking to go into playing soccer at a professional level or are hoping to engage with a career elsewhere in the soccer or sporting industry, you will be able to take advantage of a unique programme offering that prepares you for a multitude of career paths.
