Sports and Exercise Therapy is a strand of healthcare that specifically focuses on the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of patients back to optimal levels of occupational, functional and sports specific fitness. The programme has roots within the core disciplines of Sport and Exercise Science but with specific skills and knowledge developed to work with clinical and non-clinical populations to prevent and rehabilitate injuries. This is an applied programme that is aligned to the vocational skills, knowledge and abilities that are required in industry.Upon successful completion of the course you will be eligible for full membership to The Society of Sports Therapists.

Learning and Teaching ApproachThis programme is delivered with a variety of learning and teaching approaches to include all students learning styles and preferences. For all modules, theory lectures are delivered that aim to deliver the core content and provide the underpinning knowledge. To complement the theory lectures, students have group seminars / practical sessions that are used to reinforce concepts delivered theoretically. The teaching methods focus on facilitating a student centered approach to enhance the independent learning that takes place outside of the classroom.
Contact TimeApproximately 12-16 hours a week to include lectures, seminars, practical's and tutorials. Students are also expected to carry out a significant amount of private study in addition to contact time (25-30 hours a week). Independent study includes reading around the subject, preparing for tutorials and seminars, preparing for, and completing, module assessments and revision for examinations forming an essential part of your learning journey. Wednesday afternoons are reserved for sport and other extra-curricular activities.You can expect to receive your timetable during induction week.
Work ExperienceYou must complete a minimum of 200 hours of work placement throughout the duration of the programme. A minimum of 80 hours placement must be accrued externally during year three. Across the three years of the programme there will be opportunities to accrue internal experience. This may include supporting and leading on pitch-side first aid provision, supporting and leading on sport therapy clinics.
