This course is designed to help you develop as a professional, self-reflecting individual in order to meet the demands of employers in the sport and exercise sector. You will become able to adapt to a constantly changing world, develop direct employability skills and specialise in coaching, whilst also exploring the broader principles of sports science.**How will you Learn?**You will learn through a combination of independent and group activities including lecturers, seminars, trips, visits and work-related experiences.**Methods of Assessment:**Assessment is both formative and summative in nature and occurs at various points throughout the course, and includes: essays, practical performances, laboratory reports, research projects, case studies, portfolios, web-based presentations and data analysis.**Progression Routes:**There is significant breadth to this course that encompasses several potential career paths. With additional qualifications, you can potentially enter careers in: sport coaching, community sports leadership, performance development, leisure development, teaching or lecturing (PGCE required), sport and exercise science, PE teaching (PGCE required), and fitness and health.Successful completion of this course will provide you with the qualifications required to ‘top-up’ to a full Bachelor’s Degree at a university of your choice in just one year. Acceptance on to these courses is at the discretion of the institution offering the top-up.**Work-based Learning and Employability Development:**Work experience is fundamental in the development of effective practice in this sector. The engagement in work experience is therefore a critical part of this course and is actively encouraged within the units you will study. In your first year, the Professional Skills unit will develop your business skills, commercial skills, interpersonal and cognitive skills needed for successful employment. In your second year you will be required to engage in a minimum of 40 hours of placement within sport and exercise science or coaching.**Facilities and Support:**You will study at our Borderville Campus where you will benefit from state-of-the-art facilities to supplement your education, including a Sport Science Laboratory (with access to state-of-the-art equipment costing over £20,000), large wooden sprung sports hall and a new 3G sports pitch. As a Sport and Exercise Science student at University Centre Stamford you will also benefit from our on-site gym ‘Stamford Fitness’ and receive discounted membership and fitness classes.You will also have access to an Academic Support Tutor to assist you with your studies and Careers Advisors to help you with your future employment.
