The FdSc Sport and Exercise Science program is a comprehensive two-year foundation degree designed for students interested in the fields of sports science and rehabilitation. This course equips students with a strong theoretical and practical foundation in areas such as anatomy, biomechanics, psychology, and rehabilitation practices, all aimed at improving athletic performance and aiding recovery from sports-related injuries. Students will explore the intricate relationship between exercise and the human body, with a focus on rehabilitation techniques used to treat and prevent injuries. The program emphasizes hands-on experience, supported by access to specialized equipment, laboratories, and practical learning environments. By combining academic knowledge with real-world application, this course is designed to meet the evolving demands of the sports industry. As part of our Work Ready Guarantee, students will be exposed to a range of experiences aimed at boosting employability. This includes placements in sports clubs, rehabilitation centres, and clinics to gain practical experience. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in short professional courses designed to enhance their practical skills. This includes Sports Taping & Strapping Techniques: Learning the fundamentals of taping for injury prevention and rehabilitation. Sports Massage Course: Basic training in massage therapy to aid in muscle recovery. First Aid for Sports: Essential first aid skills tailored for sports environments. (Please note: these may vary each year subject to availability and demand). The FdSc is designed for individuals who are passionate about sports, health, and rehabilitation and are interested in the science behind athletic performance and injury recovery. It is ideal for those who aspire to work in sports therapy, exercise science, or health and wellness industries, particularly in roles focused on sports injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance optimisation. Students who successfully complete the FdSc then have the opportunity to progress onto the one-year BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise (Top-up). Career opportunities include: Physiotherapist, Sports Performance Analyst or Sports Rehabilitation Therapist.
