COURSE OVERVIEW

Interest in sport and exercise in the UK has increased significantly. As professionalism and participation in sport increases, those working in the field require a diverse set of skills. This course will enable you to use science and medicine to help top athletes recover from injury and reach their physical peak, and aid the general population in maintaining healthy exercise lifestyles.

You'll gain practical expertise that will allow you to assess, treat and support individuals from a variety of sporting disciplines. For example, you will understand the process of an injury audit in order to identify risks, and learn how to implement an evidence-based treatment plan that minimises the chance of re-injury or illness.

With a focus on the medical side of treatment, you will develop a comprehensive knowledge of pathophysiology, biomechanics and sports specific clinical reasoning, allowing you to accurately evaluate and attend to injuries that have occurred. You'll study rehabilitation strategies, return to play assessments and explore the emergent field of prehabilitation, meaning you can prevent as well as treat injuries.

With access to both our Health and Carnegie faculties - including modern science and rehab labs, and sport facilities - you'll be empowered to take a holistic view of an individual's sporting health, regardless of age or competitive level.

TEACHING & LEARNING

Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Our silver status in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework, reflects our commitment to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and outcomes for our students.
