At Birmingham , you'll benefit from the diverse expertise of our Department, which includes specialists in Iberian and Latin American literature, history, linguistics, and translation studies. If you are interested in combining Spanish with one or two additional languages, explore our BA Modern Languages programme.Delve further into your language studies by choosing from a selection of exciting optional modules, which may include: - Between the National and the Global: Peninsular Spanish History, 1936 to the Present Day - Icons of the Hispanic World- Structures and Varieties of the Modern Hispanic Languages- Conflicting Identities in Spanish Cinema- Digital Media and Spanish Youth Culture- Gender and Sexuality in the Hispanic World- Spanish Exile Culture- US Latino Culture: Spanish Caribbean- Imagining the Truth: Latin American Culture in a Post-truth World And cross-departmental modules such as: - Constructions of gender, sexuality and race- Cross-cultural Cinema: Migration and Displacement- Thinking Otherwise: Decolonial approaches to contemporary thought and culture- Introduction to Linguistics- From Text to Tech: Digital Approaches to Languages and Cultures- The Romance languages: structure, variation and change One of the most exciting elements of this degree is that you'll experience studying, working or teaching in a Year Abroad.There's an extensive range of language combinations available to you within our Modern Languages department. Some combinations we are unable to offer due to timetabling restrictions.

A level grade B is required for the advanced language you wish to study. It is also possible to study two beginner (including post-GCSE) languages without taking an advanced language, as long as one of your beginner languages is French or Spanish.

Accepted in place of A levels with the following grade equivalencies: D2 = A*; D3 = A; M2 = B. Combinations of A levels and Principle subjects are accepted. NB required subjects must be offered (see A level Section)

6,5,5 in Higher Level subjects. You also require a Higher Level or equivalent in each modern language that you plan to study at Advanced level. If you do not have the relevant language at Higher Level, please feel free to contact us to discuss your options.

BTEC Extended Diploma: DDM, plus a B at A-level in the required subject/s mentioned above. BTEC Diploma: DD, plus a B at A-level in the required subject/s mentioned above. BTEC Subsidiary Diploma: D, plus AB at A-level, including the required subject/s mentioned above.
