The lecturers are so helpful and supportive, they really make my uni experience better. I love being part of societies and the team at the Student Union are brilliant. I think the disability support could be improved though, and I would love to see BCU put some gender neutral toilets in their buildings.

Best aspects include course content, support and overall feel of uni. However, due to lack of campus locations are spread across city and sometimes not easy to get to.

There seems to be a lot of support. All staff are friendly and helpful. Facilities are good and also include discounts. The environment is comfortable and easily accessible from the local train station

Studying criminology at Birmingham City University has been an incredibly enriching experience, offering both personal and academic growth. One of the best aspects of this university is the way it fosters a sense of community. The diverse student body and dedicated faculty have created a learning environment that encourages collaboration and open dialogue. Whether through engaging lectures, insightful seminars, or group discussions, I’ve always felt supported in my academic journey. The course content is also highly relevant, blending theoretical knowledge with real-world applications, which helps me see the impact of criminology beyond the classroom. Guest lectures by industry professionals and opportunities for practical placements have added tremendous value to my studies, allowing me to gain firsthand experience in the field I’m passionate about. However, as with any experience, there are areas that could be improved. One challenge has been the occasional inconsistency in communication regarding assessments or scheduling changes, which can create unnecessary stress. I believe more streamlined and transparent communication channels would benefit students and staff alike. Additionally, while the campus facilities are generally excellent, expanding study spaces—especially during exam periods—would alleviate the pressure many students feel when searching for a quiet spot to focus. Overall, Birmingham City University has provided a strong foundation for my future in criminology, and I’m grateful for both the positive experiences and the challenges, as they’ve shaped me into a more resilient and well-rounded individual.

BCU offers an extremely wide range of courses available for anyone to study and can also provide strong links to further help students when they complete university. The university also has various facilities and areas for students such as the libraries and booths to be able to complete their work as well as socialise with other university students. Another great key aspect is that the main campus is located in the city centre so students are able to explore the Birmingham city, enhancing their university experience.
