This Masters in Sociology & Research Methods will provide you with research skills for qualitative and quantitative social investigation and theoretical knowledge of key problems in the philosophy of social science. You will develop your knowledge of sociology, including a critical understanding of social theory and a knowledge of empirical research studies. The programme will provide you with an advanced education in sociology, but can also serve as preparation for further sociological research in a PhD, to which many of our students successfully progress. It will provide you with the Economic & Social Research Council-required level of research training in the pathway of sociology. Sociology at Glasgow is ranked 1st in the UK by Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024 and 4th in the UK by the Complete University Guide 2024.This programme enhances employability in a range of public and private sector organisations, which increasingly value skills in conducting and interpreting social research (including social welfare-related careers, advertising, marketing, public relations, journalism, human resource management, etc.). The programme may help to stimulate a desire to continue your research studies in sociology, anthropology or criminology as a PhD student.
