The new BTEC Higher National qualifications in Social and Community Work are designed to address an increasing need for high quality professional pathways at Levels 4 and 5, providing students with a clear line of sight to employment in Social and Community work or progression to further higher education study in Social Work.The course will offer you an opportunity to review the various disciplines related to social working and community working and be in a position to recognize the qualities, skills and knowledge required to work with vulnerable people.With increasing demands for and on staff within this sector this qualification will allow you to explore options, meet professionals in the field and make informed decisions for a valuable and rewarding career.What will I studyDuring the course you will study modules that will relate directly to your workplace and allow you to put your learning into practice. You will understand the process of law and ethical policy, mental health, human development and behaviour, social work principles and practice as well as effective and relevant record keeping.Modules include1 Law, Policy and Ethical Practice in Health and Social Care 2 Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care Practice 3 Mental Health and Wellbeing: a Whole Person Approach4 Fundamentals of Evidence-based Practice (Pearson-set Project) 9 Social Work Principles and Introduction to Practice 10 Applied Understanding of Human Development and Behaviour 17 Effective Reporting and Record-keeping in Health and Social Care ServicesHow will I be assessed?You will be expected to compile a portfolio of evidence as well as submitting essays. You will also be assessed in the workplace for elements of some of the units.What can I do after completing this course?Once you have completed this course you will be a well-equipped practitioner to take on employment in the social and community sector, in shelters or hospices, within the youth work sector or within a children’s centreYou may choose to complete your academic studies with us by continuing onto the Level 6 BSc (Hons) in Integrated Health Care Management validated by the University of Brighton.Are there any extra costs?Applicants must have a current and valid Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) report. There will be a charge for a DBS (formally CRB Criminal Records Bureau) check if students are not currently employed in their settingAdditional InfoApplicants must be involved in at least 12 hours / week of activity focused time within the social or care sectors. They must have agreement from the workplace/employer to support them through workplace learning facilitations, including provision of learning and assessment opportunities required by the course.
