Study how the present intertwines with past experiences and imagined futures in societies around the world. By combining history and anthropology study, you'll gain the tools to understand and critically engage with the processes, events, actions and ideas that have shaped and continue to impact on our world today. Study past and present cultures across the world, ranging from Europe to Africa, Asia and the Americas. Develop the ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information, combined with a deep understanding of societies and cultures past and present. Alongside practical research experience, you will gain critical and transferable skills that open up a broad range of career opportunities. Social Anthropology and History students can broaden their skills by learning a new language for free, taking a Professional Skills module or getting involved in one of the paid internships offered exclusively to University of Birmingham students. Set yourself up for a career in cultural heritage, charity, politics, international relations or higher education. You’ll be assessed in different ways to suit each module. At the start of a module, you’ll be told how and when you’ll be assessed. Methods will vary but may include coursework (e.g., essays), group or individual presentations and projects, exams, reports or computer-based assignments.
