All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive. You’ll start by gaining a solid foundation in the different areas of computing used in building smart systems. This includes fundamental programming skills, database design, hardware, software architectures, cloud computing and networking concepts. You'll then put this knowledge into practice through group projects in your second year. For example, you could be using Raspberry Pis to gather real data, which is stored in a cloud-based infrastructure and visualised through web-based interfaces to connect technologies across software and hardware. Throughout the course, you’ll work with real clients on projects that allow you to apply the technical skills you’ll learn, preparing you for work on IoT and smart device projects. Working on group projects will provide you with opportunities to develop your project management skills and apply industry standard techniques. As part of your final year, you’ll undertake an independent project of your choice that involves smartly integrating technologies to address a real-world problem that pays particular attention to the needs of a target audience.
