Screen and Film - CertHE

BIMM University

The filmmaking course here could not be better, I have loved almost every lecture I have had and coming from a background where I had a lot of previous knowledge in filmmaking, I still feel as though I have learnt a lot. Although there is not much I would change about the course, there are some aspects that I would improve such as the student support, as someone with additional needs I feel as though it is quite difficult to get support from the team as it is necessary to book a tutorial for weeks in the future, whereas a same day or next day one would suit me better. There is also a lack of societies which makes it hard to engage with others outside of your classes. However, the quality of teaching is great, and I would reccomend the uni to anyone looking to study film in the future.

It’s a great place with a lot of support from the tutors. I’ve had a lot of 1-1 time with multiple tutors and almost all of them have been incredibly kind and helpful. Also Brighton is nice in general, cause a lot of the locations are accessible via public transport. I’d say the facilities aren’t awful, it’s just that they aren’t helpful to be at sometimes, had some issues with printing. Still great though.

I have been allowed a great deal of practical experience over the last 3 years of study, being able to work with industry standard technology and given the knowledge to understand it. Being allowed to follow a specialism of my choice really helped me figure out where I want to go in the industry going forward. Would be great to get some classes for giving solid advice for entering the workforce as I know this is not thoroughly covered as it currently stands :)

the best things about studying with BIMM is the skills that you learn being able to have a hands on approach to all work practicing in a practical work environment. Also, the people that you meet being able to connect and work as a team to create something that you are proud of.

Previously known as the Screen & Film School, this is part of BIMM University. It is a private Uni so the student experience is different from a typical public sector Uni - there was no SU but there was generally less bureaucracy as 2 examples (the 1 star rating for the non-existent SU is due to the way whatuni works). BIMM specialises in creative media courses. I did an MA in Screen & Film Production in its debut year at Manchester. My advice is go to an open day, ask questions and see if the MFS is right for you.

The students and teachers at my school had made my study time a wonderful, creative and educating period! Our school could improve and expand their facilities, as the student body is growing.
