Content

The purpose of the programme is to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals who can meet the demands of employers in the rapidly evolving Public Services sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualification also aims to widen access to higher education and enhance the career prospects of those who undertake them.The overall aims of the programme are to:- Provide a thorough grounding in Public Services principles at Level 4, which leads the student to the progression pathway at Level 5 relating to individual professions within the Public Services sector.- Equip individuals with the essential qualities of a Public Services professional, including integrity, principles and values as they apply to a range of roles and responsibilities within the Public Services sector.- Enable progression to a higher-level study such as a university degree by supporting the development of academic study skills and the selection of appropriate units for study at Level 5.- Enable progression to further professional qualifications in specific Public Services disciplines by mapping the units studied to the requirements of the Professional Bodies applicable to that discipline.

HNC ( Year 1) Curriculum

4 Core Mandatory Units:- Organisational Structures and Culture- Mental Health and Wellbeing- Equality, Diversity and Fair Treatment- Public Services in Contemporary Society (Pearson-set)4 Optional Units from a choice of 24, including:- Terrorism and Counter-terrorism- Law and Legal Systems- Crime and Substance Misuse- Technology in the Public Services- Psychology of Behaviour


HND (Year 2) Curriculum

2 Core Mandatory Units:- Research Project (Pearson-set)- Reflective Professional Practice5 Optional Units from a choice of 23, including: - Serious and Organised Crime- Cyber Security- Youth Offending- Applied Forensic Psychology- Work-based Experience
